Mortgage advisors provide advice on mortgage products based on an individual’s personal needs and suitability. They can work either as independently or within a company offering their own range of mortgage products.
Mortgage advisors commonly work either in estate agents, banks, building societies or for mortgage brokers. They are required to have a good understanding of FSA compliance regulations. Most mortgage advisors will provide advice on both a mortgage and associated insurance products.
Good communication skills are required for mortgage advisors, as they are typically providing explanation of complicated products. Mortgage advisors are expected to have formal industry qualifications through bodies such as the Chartered Insurance Institute (CF1 and CF6 exams) or through the IFS School of Finance (CeMAP exams).
